Tulsa, Okla. -- September 20, 2004 -- The R.E. Technologies Racing teams recorded two top sixteen finishes Saturday night at the O'Reilly Tulsa 100 presented by Flowmaster at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Motorplex.
The night started out promising when Rookie Boston Reid scored his highest qualifying position on dirt, qualifying the No. 35 Curb Records machine 9th. Teammate Jerry Coons Jr. qualified the No. 191 ParkerStores car 17th.
When the green flag waved, Coons set out on a mission to pass cars on the dusty one lane track. By the halfway mark, the Arizona native had passed three cars. With twelve laps to go, teammate Boston Reid got high in the loose dirt between turns one and two and did a three-sixty in the Curb-Agajanian Special bringing out a caution and forcing Reid to start from the end. When the green flag replaced the yellow, the Indiana native had moved up to finish 16th. Jerry Coons Jr. was also on the move, gaining three positions to finish 11th. Former R.E. Technologies Racing driver, Tyler Walker won the event. It was his third straight Silver Crown™ win.
NO TIME TO REST
The R.E. Technologies Racing team has a short turnaround this week. The team will travel to the "Four Crown Nationals" September 24th and 25th at Eldora Speedway in Rossburgh, Ohio. The event will feature UMP Modifieds, USAC Nation Midget Series, USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car Series and the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series.
The event also marks the beginning of Eldora promoter Earl Baltes' farewell to the fans. After 51 years at his beloved speedway, the 83 year old Baltes is retiring. The farewell to the fans will include this weekend, the weekend of October 2nd and conclude on October 9th and 10th.
COONS SCORES 2nd AND 4th IN SPRINTS
Jerry Coons Jr. finished second Friday night at the Tulsa Fairgrounds Motorplex. Nursing a flat left front tire over the final six rounds, the Arizona native, gained three positions in the final laps aboard the Hoffman No. 69 machine to snare second. Coons finished 4th Wednesday night in the No. 69 sprint car at the Roper Classic at Lebanon, Missouri. Jerry Coons was filling in for Tracy Hines who was competing at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in New Hampshire.
