Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, N.M. sped from 18th starting spot to take the lead on the 13th lap of Saturday night's USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series finale at Hollywood Hills Speedway in San Felipe Pueblo, New Mexico. The virtuoso performance paid off as he led the final 17 laps of the 30-lap feature to claim his initial USAC racing championship.

Ziehl and his Lucas Oil Avenger Chevy closed out the series with four back-to-back wins to beat points runner-up Brandon Lane by 63 in the final tally. Lane finished 12th in Saturday night's finale.

Ziehl was trailed at the checkered flag by fast qualifier Gary Taylor, Robert Hall, Jr., Robert Gomez and Ronnie Clark. The win was the third at the 3/8-mile dirt oval this year for Ziehl, who also won there in April and August.

Heat races were won by Bruce St. James, Steve Nix and Beau Binder.
