"4-CROWN" NEXT FOR NATIONAL SPRINT CARS; STANBROUGH WINS WILD TERRE HAUTE SPRINT
The race for USAC's National Sprint Car championship has tightened and will continue September 26 when the 29th "4-Crown Nationals" unfolds at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.
rTony Stewart Racing's Levi Jones finds himself guarding a 25-point lead over Dave Darland entering the Eldora race after they finished 10th and fourth respectively in Saturday night's race at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.
rJon Stanbrough of Avon, Ind. outlasted the field to win Saturday night's 30-lap "First Financial Bank Sprint Car Classic" at Terre Haute. Stanbrough emerged with the win after leading the final two laps in his Fox Racing J & J/Foxco. Chase Stockon led the first nine laps and Jones led the next 17, then a flat tire thwarted Jones' bid and put Jerry Coons Jr. in the lead on lap 27 but Coons ran short of fuel before the checkered flag. Cole Whitt finished second ahead of Robert Ballou, Darland and Shane Hmiel. Coons won the T.H.A.T. ""King of the Action Track" honors for 2009.
rBoth Jones and Darland are former "4-Crown" Sprint Car champions, Jones winning in 2005 and Darland in 1999.
