Third generation drivers to race finale at LVMS

Las Vegas - Legendary open-wheel driver Pancho Carter's sons, Dane and Cole will compete at the USAC Midget Car Series at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Following in their father's and grandfathers' footsteps, Dane and Cole Carter compete in the USAC Midget Car Series.

Pancho Carter is a two-time USAC champion, clinching both the USAC National Midget and Sprint Car titles in the same year (1974, 1976). In 1990, Carter was inducted into the "National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame", just one year after his father. Carter also competed in 17 Indy 500 races from 1974 to 1991 and earned rookie-of-the-year honors.

"They have quite a heritage to live up to," said Pancho. "They are both doing rather well."

"We have quite big shoes to fill since both of our grandfathers raced at Indianapolis and my dad raced Indianapolis for 17 years," said Dane, 24. "So far I've done a pretty decent job. I am looking forward to coming back to Las Vegas. Cole's car was pretty quick and we weren't too bad with my car."

Cole Carter, 19, isn't fazed by the legacy.

"I don't feel racing in the third generation is much pressure," said Cole. "I'm looking forward to Las Vegas because we were really fast before my engine blew."

A one-hour autograph session for all drivers is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Friday, Nov. 29 USAC will have an open practice session. Spectators can watch practice from 4 to 7 free of charge.

Saturday, Nov. 30, spectator gates open at 3 p.m. Qualifying begins at 3:30 p.m. with racing at 6:30.
