TORC: Mike Oberg Motorsports Crandon season finale summary

Eagle River, WI (September 9, 2010) - The 2010 season has come to a close with the season finale' in Crandon Wisconsin. Everyone in attendance witnessed some of the best racing every seen in short course racing. The majority of the point's races came down to the final class races of the weekend where many new Champions were crowned. Now all that is left of the 2010 season is to watch all the action that was captured to be aired every Thursday night for the next 25 weeks on Discovery HD Theater. The season premier was aired last Thursday night to rave reviews from all that watched. It is the best coverage ever seen for short course racing.

The Oberg Team had a rough weekend in Crandon. We all knew Mike was going to have to push the truck to the limit to move our way up the point's ladder. He pushed it hard on Saturday and managed to finish in 7th place. He was having some fuel issues that caused the engine to sputter and he couldn't garner the power needed to catch the leaders. The guys worked hard into the evening hours to find the cause and they did. There was an issue with the carburetor and they tuned it well.

In the Sunday race, Mike was pushing very hard and made it up to 4th place before catching a huge hole that bent the lower control arms in the rear and taking him out of contention. The team was very disappointed at this point but knew they had to be ready for the first ever running of the AMSOIL Cup Race later in the day. "We finished 8th in point's which isn't where we wanted to be," says Mike, "But we learned a lot this season and hope to capitalize on that for next year".

Mike started really well in the Cup Race. He came into turn one near the front of the pack and faded toward the back in front of the crowd. A big pile-up in the Finish Line Corner left the door wide open for Mike to get through. He came out of that mess in 4th position which he maintained for several laps. He then caught another big hole on the outside line and bent the arms in the rear once again. He was then sidelined for the rest of the race. "That is what happens when you have to push it to the limit," says Mike. The inaugural AMSOIL Cup Race was then won by fellow AMSOIL Teammate Scott Douglas which thrilled us all. Scott had some stiff competition but took the win and he was driving his back-up truck.

Other excitement we had for the weekend was entering the back-up Oberg Team Truck in the Limited II Class piloted by Crew Chief Corey Lambert. "We figured this would give Corey a better understanding of how things work on the truck," says Mike. "Hopefully he can put this to good use during his time working on the trucks at home in the shop."
