JAY DRAKE DOMINATES SUMMER SIZZLE FIRST NIGHT OF RACING INDIANAPOLIS, IN, July 7, 1999 - Jay Drake of Val Verde, CA, Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, AZ, and Jack Hewitt of Troy, OH locked themselves into the Saturday feature by finishing 1-2-3 tonight at 16th Street Speedway. Ricky Shelton of Huntington Beach, CA missed the cut by finishing fourth in the feature but by winning his heat claimed the other guaranteed spot for
Saturday's finalet. All the others must return Friday for their second chance to make it into the big money feature. Buckeye Jack Hewitt did most of the passing in the feature, starting 13th and finishing third. During yellows Hewitt was the only driver who cooled his tires by driving in the wet stuff down low on the track, a Hewitt trademark that works. More racing tomorrow!
