55 WESTERN USAC DATES; 76 RACES INCLUDE NEW VENUES
A total of 55 racing dates have been announced for USAC's "Western" participants, including 21 "doubleheader" programs, incorporating 17 different race tracks. At lest seven tracks not on the 1998 calendar are listed for 1999, including the brand-new Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway where the MCI WorldCom USAC "Western States" Midget Cars, MCI WorldCom USAC TQ Midget Cars and USAC "Western States" Sprint Cars will all compete this year. Irwindale opens its doors on March 27 with a "doubleheader" featuring the MCI WorldCom TQ and Midget Cars. Other new 1999 venues include Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, Calif., which hosts a pair of Midget Car events; San Bernardino, Calif's Orange Show Speedway, which hosts a TQ/Midget Car "doubleheader;" Erie, Colorado's Colorado National Speedway, which hosts a Sprint/Midget Car "doubleheader;" Salt Lake City, Utah's Rocky Mountain Raceways, which hosts a Sprint date; Anderson, California's Shasta Motorsports Complex, which hosts a Sprint date; and the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, which returns to the fold with a Midget Car date. One of the biggest changes in the 1999 calendar finds the Sprint car series competing on only paved ovals. They have 18 races on seven different tracks.
