"Vogler Classic" at Winchester Friday.
Stewart eyes $50,000 "Showdown at the Prairie" bonus.

Tracy Hines leads the USAC Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series into a pair of important events this week, clinging to a 75-point lead over J.J. Yeley in the standings.

Friday's "Rich Vogler Classic" at the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway will be televised by ESPN2 and shown at 8 pm on Sunday night, July 14. A 30-lap feature caps the program on the 1/2-mile paved oval. Practice starts at 3:30 pm and qualifying gets under way at 5:30. The first race is at 7.

Sunday night's Coca-Cola "Showdown at the Prairie" at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. offers a $50,000 bonus to any driver who can sweep both 25-lap feature events. The Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car, USAC/BMARA Midget Car "doubleheader" has drawn the entry of USAC Triple Crown Champion and NASCAR veteran Tony Stewart, who won a USAC Western Sprint Car feature June 22 at Tracy, Calif. Stewart will pilot entries in both divisions fielded by car owner Keith Kunz.

The Sun Prairie events begin with practice at 2:30 pm. Qualifying starts at 3 and the first race on the 1/3-mile dirt track is slated for 6 pm.

Dave Darland won last year's Sun Prairie Midget feature and finished second to Jack Hewitt in the Sprint Car finale, narrowly missing the $50,000 bonus.

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. will continue his pursuit of the USAC "Triple Crown" at Sun Prairie. He leads the Midget Car standings and is second in the Sprint Car series. He also ranks third in the USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series.
