WM: Altamont preview, Bakersfield recap

MIDGETS PART OF ALTAMONT'S USAC "TRIPLEHEADER" SATURDAY; FORD TOPS BAKERSFIELD 30-LAPPER

Nic Faas of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Scott Pierovich of Alamo, Calif. are separated by a single point in the latest Western Midget standings going in to this Saturday's racing program at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy. Calif. Saturday's program also includes the USAC Western Sprint Cars and California Pavement Ford Focuses.

Pierovich, who finished second at Bakersfield, Calif. last Saturday night, and Faas, who was third at Bakersfield, continue to seek their initial 2008 wins although both have finished in "podium" positions this season.

Ridgefield, Wash. driver Paul Zimmerly won at Altamont in April and is again expected to be a threat for victory at the 1/2-mile paved oval.

Josh Ford of Oxnard, Calif. led all but the opening lap of Saturday night's 30-lapper at Bakersfield Speedway to put his Berry Pack/V-Mac JFM/Fontana in victory lane. Trailing Ford to the checkered flag were Pierovich, Faas, Robby Flock and Ernie Bartley III. Joey Fabozzi was Saturday's fastest qualifier.
