Flock, Boyden share Kings Speedway stage
Ford Focuses invade Stockton 99 Saturday Night

Defending USAC Western Midget Car Champion Robby Flock and Garratt Boyden earned USAC feature victories in Saturday night's USAC "doubleheader" at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif. The Western Midget Car Series is now idle until a June 7 race at Bakersfield, Calif., while the California Ford Focus Midget Cars compete this Saturday night at the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway in concert with the USAC Western Sprint Cars.

Flock led all 30 laps in his Weldway, Inc./Paul Oil Company Stealth/Pink Chevy to beat Wally Pankratz, Steve Paden, Rick Hendrix and Michael Simpson on the 3/8-mile dirt fairgrounds oval. Paden's finish boosted him into the lead in the Western Midget Car standings, seven points ahead of National competitor Bobby East, who did not compete at Hanford. Josh Wise posted the fastest qualifying time and won the first heat race, while Jimmy Christian also won a heat.

Flock's victory was the 45th of his Western Midget Car career and marked the 15th season in which he has scored at least one victory!

Boyden's victory in the 20-lap Ford Focus Midget Car race came after the Santa Cruz, Calif. driver passed Wayne McCormick on lap 12 and led the rest of the way in his Stealth. McCormick finished second, ahead of Ryan Kaplan, Ashley Walker and 2002 Ford Focus Midget Car Champion Todd Hunsaker. Chris Rahe was the fastest qualifier. The victory was the first for Boyden under USAC sanction.

This Saturday night's event at Stockton 99 Speedway is the DuWayne Starr Classic and includes a 20-lap Ford Focus Midget Car and 40-lap Western Sprint Car feature. Practice at the 1/4-mile paved oval starts at 3 pm.
