Ventura rained out - Phoenix next!
Torrential rains which began early Saturday and were forecast for the balance of Saturday and Sunday in southern and central California have forced cancellation of Saturday night's USAC National/Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Series openers at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway.
No rain date for this event has been established at this time.
The 2003 USAC racing season will now commence with the 26th "Copper World Classic" at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway March 20-23. The USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series and National and Western Midget Car Series will join the Indy Racing League and the IRL's Infinity Pro Series for the Phoenix events, which begin with USAC practice on Thursday.
A 25-mile Midget car and 100-mile Infiniti Pro feature are slated Saturday at PIR and the 100-mile Weld Racing Silver Crown race precedes Sunday's Purex/Dial Indy 200 IRL feature on the 1-mile paved oval.
