MIDGETS RETURN TO STOCKTON SATURDAY; SCHUTTE NABS 2ND WESTERN MIDGET WIN AT KINGS SPEEDWAY
The USAC Western Midgets return to the Stockton (Calif.) 99 Speedway Saturday as part of the track's tripleheader with USAC Sprint cars and Ford Focus Midgets and Garrett Hansen's point lead over runner-up Jerome Rodela is safe for the moment.
Rodela still trails by 132 points but a good finish at Stockton could cut into that lead as the season winds down. Rodela has one victory so far this year, on pavement, and four second-places.
Alex Schutte of Redding, Calif. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night's USAC Western Midget feature at Kings Speedway in Lucas Oil/AEC Spike/Mopar. The win was his second of the season as he beat Justin Grant, Bud Kaeding, Scott Nail and Robby Flock to the checkered flag. Hansen finished ninth, while Scott Pierovich was the fastest qualifier.
Schutte's win left him just one point behind Rodela in the battle for the number two series ranking.
