WM: Madera recap, Roseville preview

MIDGETS MAKE 1ST ROSEVILLE APPEARANCE IN 32 YEARS; 5TH MADERA MIDGET PODIUM, 3RD WIN FOR SWANSON

Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. posted his third Madera Speedway win of the 2009 Western Midget campaign at the California oval Saturday night and rates the favorite's role for this Saturday's return to the All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.

It's been 32 years since the USAC Midgets competed at the northern California oval. Roy Cook Jr. won the 1997 outing. Saturday's events at Roseville also include the USAC Western Sprint cars.

Swanson led the final 26 laps of the 30-lap Madera race, co-sanctioned by BCRA, after passing Alex Schutte on lap five. Jerome Rodela finished second ahead of Chad Nichols, Scott Pierovich and Nick Chivello. Rodela was the night's fastest qualifier. Swanson piloted the Roy McKenney-owned machine to the victory.

Rodela trails Garrett Hansen by 124 points in the latest USAC Western Midget standings. Hansen did not compete at Madera.
