Western Speed Racing Looks For Win In Ventura

VENTURA, California (April 7, 2006) - - Western Speed Racing with drivers Michael Lewis, Jr and Alex Pruett aboard head to Ventura Speedway this weekend looking to dominate over the rest of the USAC competition in the third event on the 2006 USAC Western Midget Series schedule.

Michael Lewis, Jr, the veteran driver of the team looks to extend his points lead in the series, while newcomer and rookie Alex Pruett plans to turn his season around. Lewis took sixth in the last event at Bakersfield, while Alex was involved in an accident in the heat session keeping him on the sidelines for the main attraction.

"Bakersfield was a decent finish, but I'm used to winning, so we'll look to improve on those results," said Lewis, Jr. Michael leads Brad Kuhn by 114-82 (32 markers) in the WMS point standings and plans to extend that spread this weekend. "It's good to be leading this early in the season, but we still have a long way to go. There are 27 events this season, but this is our game to lose. I don't plan to let that happen."

As for Pruett, he's hoping for an impressive run that will leap him in the standings and put him back on the map. "Bakersfield was a disappointment, but that's racing. Western Speed Racing and our sponsors don't deserve what happened. But it's a new weekend and I'm excited," explained Pruett.

Michael is looking for revenge at Ventura. Two years ago, Lewis appeared to be on his to victory lane but motor fatigue less than five laps from the finish halted those plans. "I remember that race like it was yesterday," recalled Michael, a former USAC champion. "We spun out, and worked our way back towards the front and the race was ours and the motor blew. I hated it. Hopefully we won't have this problem this weekend and we can bring home the trophy."

Alex is looking to garnish seat time behind the wheel of the No. 60. "I plan to learn, learn, and learn this weekend," he said. "Michael has some experience at the track, so I will talk with him and I'm sure he'll give me the best advice he can. If we can just maintain some respectable times throughout practice and in qualifying, we'll be okay. As for the race, I just want to play it safe, avoid any incidents and bring it home in one piece."

Western Speed Racing, Performance Trailers, Team ASE, Hoosier Tire, Esslinger Engineering Ford, Red Line Oil, Weld Wheels and Loy Loy Restaurant will all serve as sponsors for both drivers this weekend.

"You know, we have some great sponsors on this Western Speed Racing team, continued Lewis who will carry personal entitlements from Puma and Bell Helmets this weekend. They are used to winning and there's no reason why it can't happen this weekend. I know it would be a boost for not only our team but our sponsors if we ended up in victory lane Saturday night."

"Our sponsors are second-to-none and without them I wouldn't be here" remarked Pruett. "Western Speed Racing is one of the most professional organizations in the USAC industry and I am proud to be a part of that. Look at our sponsors, they are well known and impressive, it's truly an honor to represent them this weekend. Hopefully we can overcome this monkey that has been on our back and give WSR (Western Speed Racing) a 1-2 finish."

Following the Ventura event, Lewis plans to stay put in the USAC ranks while continuing to see if other racing opportunities fall in place. I would like to go back into the NASCAR Busch Series or ARCA RE/MAX Series this season," added Lewis. But, I don't have anything definite plans in the future, just people trying to help me get there. My main focus right now is here in the USAC series with Western Speed Racing, if something else develops we'll worry about it then. I have a job to do and that's what I plan on doing."

Pruett plans to stay put with Western Speed Racing. "My goal is to learn as much as I can from Michael and concentrate on finishing and winning races. I'm happy to be a part of this team all year. I'm going to take every avenue necessary to show I'm a good teammate and can get the job done."

In the coming weeks, Western Speed Racing will launch a brand new website allowing fans and members of the media to go in-depth with the championship caliber team.
