J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. has locked up the 2002 Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Hose Fast Qualifier Championship and the $20,000 cash bonus it provides. He has a 48-point lead over runner-up Tracy Hines entering the final four races of the series, but only 36 points remain to be claimed.

Neither Yeley nor Hines earned any additional points during Saturday night's "Old Pueblo Classic" Sprint/Midget Car "doubleheader' at Tucson (Ariz.) Raceway Park, but Hines won the 40-lap Midget Car feature event. He also finished third in the Sprint car race, while Yeley was ninth in the Midget feature.

Fast qualifiers for the two Tucson races were Tony Ave (Midget Cars) and Jason Leffler (Sprint Cars).

The $20,000 bonus is awarded to the driver accumulating the most points during 2002 in five USAC racing series, computed through an international point system utilized specifically for this title. Yeley will accept the award on Friday night, December 6 at the USAC "Champions Night" awards ceremony at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.

The system somewhat mirrors the system used for years for determining the World Driving Champion, with nine points for fast qualifying time, six for second, four for third, three for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. Series included in the Earl's Pro-Lite 350 Hose Fast Qualifier Championship are the Weld Racing Silver Crown Series, the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series, Western Sprint Car Series, National and Western Midget Car Series.

EARL'S PRO-LITE 350 FAST QUALIFIER POINT LEADERS
(As of November 25, 2002)
1. J.J. Yeley-207
2. Tracy Hines-159
3. Dave Steele-124
4. Jay Drake-95
5. Josh Wise-63
