Mixed practice session for Hi-Tech Motorsport
The boys from Hi-Tech Motorsport put in a solid performance in practice one this morning, while series leader Grant Johnson was forced to stand by, watching his team-mates from pit wall.
Due to some discrepancies with the design of the roll cage in Johnson's Brunel Energy VE, the team made a last minute decision this morning to make some dramatic changes to the setup.
The decision meant that Johnson missed out on practice one for the round while the team calls in extra help to make the adjustments.
However, the notorious hard-charger isn't worried about his standings for the rest of the round.
"I only need to be fast for qualifying," says Johnson, smiling.
"The last time I missed a practice session I got Pole, it's not a big deal,"
The star of the Hi-Tech team for the session was Jack Elsegood, who finished in 3rd.
Jack currently sits in 2nd place in the championship points and finished the session just .4 of a second behind rival David Sieders.
Rhys McNally in the #26 NRW VE finished in 13th in practice; a good start to the season finale for the consistent rookie.
"I know where I need to improve; now I just have to do it," says McNally
Ryo Orime from Japan, pushed some impressive numbers in the first practice session in the #12 Ute, finishing 15th overall, just ahead of Greg Willis in the #44 Grove Juice Falcon, finishing in 20th.
The team is now busily preparing the utes for the final practice session this afternoon before qualifying at 8:30 tomorrow morning.
