A Third Series One-Two for Hi-Tech Motorsport

Hi-Tech team mates Grant Johnson and Jack Elsegood have gone head-to-head in a fierce battle for the V8 Ute Racing championship over the weekend. The winner? Hi-Tech Motorsport, securing their third championship win from the past four seasons.

Coming into the final round of the series, Johnson was sitting a very comfortable 86 points ahead of his team mate and was almost a certainty to take the championship.

So no one could have anticipated that finishing the final race for 2010 on Sunday afternoon, Johnson would cross the line with only four points to spare over Elsegood.

After a horror start to the weekend that saw Johnson miss the opening practice session and then have his points from both qualifying and race one stripped from his tally, the West Aussie made a spectacular fight back in the final two races to secure his second championship win.

After starting from the back of the grid, Johnson managed to make up 37 positions throughout the two races.

When he crossed the finish line for the final race in 15th place he had no idea where he stood in the championship.

"I was just thinking that it was the best we could do under the circumstances. I couldn't get any further up the field," said a tired Johnson following the presentations,

"It was a huge emotional rollercoaster"

Elsegood had his own troubles in the beginning, after a miscommunication over starting times saw the Sydneysider frantically getting into his race suit in the pits after the round qualification session had already started.

He made a triumphant assault on the field to finish in 2nd place in the session. Elsegood held that spot for most of the weekend, eventually finishing the round in 2nd place, as well as the championship.

Hi-Tech Motorsport Team Manager, John "Barrel" Pachos was overcome with emotion following the final race.

"We did it!" said Pachos, raising a towel to his face.

"This is what we do all day every day. We work on these cars. That's why they're the best."
