Rhys McNally has qualified 15th for round 5 of the V8 Utes Series at Phillip Island today.
Rhys came out of the blocks firing in the wet first practice session with the second fastest time for the session before being 9th in the second session.
It was the qualifying session that Rhys wanted to make the most of after plenty of stoppages in the practice sessions.
"15th fastest was a bit disappointing considering the way we started today, but it was the first time I got to do more than four laps in a row in dry conditions," he said.
"I think that I just fell back to some of my habits from running a Formula Ford around this sweeping circuit; I definitely had pace in the practice sessions."
With a fight ahead of him Rhys has started working on how he can go faster and get the most out of his ute.
"I have had a good chat with Grant (Johnson) about the fastest way around here and I know where I can gain some speed.
"It is just going to be a matter of getting into it quickly and making up some places before the field spreads out too much.
"The weather looks like it will be fine for tomorrow's racing and I am looking forward to some good racing," Rhys said.
