MCNALLY OFF TO A GOOD START AT SYDNEY IN V8 UTES
Despite suffering from a bout of gastro, Rhys McNally has been the 7th fastest V8 Utes driver around the Sydney Homebush street circuit in practice today.
The day started well with the West Australian having his first laps of the circuit in practice 1 this morning, posting the 13th fastest time.
"I just had to go out there and get my head around the circuit, being one that I have not raced before," he said.
"I did my customary track walk, a few laps in a hire car and looked at previous in-car footage to get me as familiar as possible before I hit the track today."
Practice 2 was where Rhys really went for it, pushing the car hard into 7th fastest for the session before collecting the turn 8 wall and damaging the car with just a few laps remaining.
"I was pushing really hard out there, rubbing the walls a lot, and I just got the turn 8 wall a bit too much."
The car was not severely damaged but it did leave the HiTech crew with a bit of work tonight.
"I am focusing on being a lot more aggressive out there, not being pushed around, and I suppose sometimes you will get it a bit wrong and hit a wall.
"I know where I need to improve, mainly in the final sector, and if I can do that I will be right on the pace tomorrow.
"I am really looking forward to qualifying."
