TWO DNF'S END OUTSTANDING ROOKIE SEASON FOR MCNALLY IN V8 UTES
Rhys McNally didn't have the ending to V8 Utes season 2010 that he wanted on the streets of Sydney today but he did finish in the top ten of the points in his rookie season which was highlighted by a race win on the Gold Coast three weeks ago.
After a solid qualifying and 5th place in race 1 yesterday, Rhys was looking forward to a solid day today.
Starting from grid 12 in today's reverse race he made a solid start and got as high as 6th in the opening laps of the race.
With a bunch of cars ahead, four wide into a turn and a bit of a melee gave Rhys a run onto the straight.
Unfortunately as Rhys pulled along side one of the cars he was crunched into the concrete wall and left with broken steering.
"I was on a charge," Rhys said.
"It is one of the perils of reverse races when you have inexperienced drivers who are not used to racing at the front and they go a bit crazy; we were the victim today."
Race 3 was shaping up well as Rhys got a solid start but turned to disaster again when he was again bumped into the concrete on lap two leaving him to limp back to the pit with yet another broken steering rack.
"It is a disappointing way to end the series," Rhys said.
"But it has been a great rookie year for me, I think I have really come to terms with the car now and have experience at all the tracks too.
"I can't thank Barrel and the guys from HiTech Motorsport enough, not only for their work this weekend, but for their work all season to make the car fast.
"Our sponsors have been great too, without their support we couldn't be out there, so I am extremely grateful for their contribution."
Rhys has one final engagement for 2010, a ride day at Perth's Barbagallo Raceway for his sponsors on December 16.
"I am looking forward to next season now, with 2010 under my belt I can focus on trying to win the series in 2011."
