MCNALLY TOP 5 AFTER DAY 1 OF V8 UTES IN SYDNEY
Rhys McNally has started the final round of the V8 Utes Series in fine style on the streets of Sydney today with 6thy in qualifying and 5th in race 1.
After damaging the car yesterday the team at HiTech Motorsport repaired and re-set the car for today's qualifying session.
A wet, but drying, track greeted the competitors for the qualifying session which meant it was battle to see who could set the fastest lap on their final lap of the session with more grip available after the water dissipated.
"We were up as high as 2nd fastest in the session and down as low as 12th at some stage in the session," Rhys said.
"It was a matter of who crossed the line last to record the fastest lap, unfortunately I was baulked on my best lap and had to settle for 6th.
"The car was good, the guys did a great job of getting it back to where it was yesterday."
Race 1 saw Rhys get a great start and forge his way into 5th place in the first turn.
A First lap safety car put the field under yellow for four laps before the race was declared.
"It was frustrating to have the race end like that but I am happy with fifth place," he said.
"My new level of aggression seems to be paying off now so I am confident I can do better tomorrow."
Rhys has the reverse race tomorrow morning and the final race of the series tomorrow afternoon.
