"Sideways" Sieders Slides to Pole Position in V8 Utes on the Gold Coast

Nulon Oil driver David Sieders claimed the Armor All Pole Award and $1,000 cash after claiming the fastest time in Qualifying for Round 7 of the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All on the Gold Coast, Friday, 22nd October.

This is Sieders second Armor All Pole Award, his first on debut at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. He posted his best time (1:27.48) on lap seven of the session becoming the first pole sitter on the revised Surfers Paradise layout.

Sieders main rival was Gold Coast based Chris Pither who pipped the New South Welshman on lap 3 before Sieders rebounded in the final minutes of qualifying to claim the pole slot back.

"I got knocked off by Pither and went out again to knock him off and we did. The team said "congratulations you've got pole as the chequered flag has just come out" but I knew that Pither was on his last lap and could still bump me off but it was lucky that he didn't," said Sieders.

"It's a testament to the team to knock out a time that late in the session. The car is awesome and tomorrow I'll try and get off the line as quick as possible and get out in front and keep it that way."

Ice Break Racing's Pither put in a last effort on the final lap but was unable to outpace the Ford driver who beat him by two hundredths of a second.

"I put a quick one in on lap three and he pipped me later in the session. I put on a screamer on my flyer lap and improved my time but unfortunately wasn't fast enough to take Pole," the reigning NZ Ute champ claimed.

"I'm confident with the starts I've been having in previous rounds and I look forward to nailing the start for Race 1 and notching up another win for Ice Break Racing."

Current Series leader, Grant Johnson missed out on Pole and will have to contend with third fastest, a disappointing result for the West Aussie who has claimed four Pole Positions this year. Local driver, Ryal Harris drove his Shooters Superclub backed Holden VE to finish fourth in a good result for the Gold Coaster who is out to win on his home track.

Coopers Clear Racing's Jack Elsegood finished fifth quickest ahead of Sage Automations driver Gary Baxter sixth and Jesus Racing's Andrew Fisher in seventh.

Coombabah Plaza driver Charlie O'Brien posted a few more laps around his local track than his rivals doing double duty in the Legends event, and claimed eighth fastest. James Brock is also competing in the Legends event but had a disappointing result in 23rd place.

Rookies NRW Holding Rhys McNally and Rockstar Energy Drink's Jeremy Gray rounded out the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively. This was McNally's first appearance on the Gold Coast and the WA rookie was very impressive

Bob Jane T-Marts Holden driver Kim Jane was unlucky to miss the top ten through tyre pressure issues and had to contend with 11th for the session.

Workhorse Collision Repairs, Ben Kavich posted a good result in 12th along with Samboy Racing's Tim Blanchard who claimed 13th fastest on his debut.

Steve Hodges will be working overtime tonight to fix an oil leak and ended the session on a mechanical black flag due to the smoke caused from the leak.

The drivers will hit the streets of the Gold Coast at 10:15am Saturday, 23rd October for Race 1 (12 lap race), which will be televised on Network Seven at 11am. Race 2 (14 lap race) will also be televised live at 11am on Sunday, 24th October followed by Race 3 (14 lap race), which will close out the round at 12:10pm.
