KNIGHT AIMS FOR MORE SUCCESS
After gaining his maiden victory in the BNT V8s Championship prior to Christmas Andy Knight of Christchurch heads to the next two rounds on consecutive weekends in a confident frame of mind.
The twenty-four year old, a former New Zealand Grand Prix and Toyota Racing Series Champion, has become a serious contender in his Century Batteries Falcon in the short time he has been part of the V8 category and the next two venues - Teretonga Park in Invercargill and Timaru International Motor Raceway - have both been happy hunting grounds for the speedy Cantabrian in the past. Round 3 of the championship takes place at Teretonga Park in Invercargill over the weekend of 15/16 January followed by Round 4 at Timaru one week later.
Knight begins the South Island double header fifth equal in the point standings alongside two-time series champion Andy Booth of Auckland.
That championship position could have been even higher as Andy battled an engine issue in qualifying at the series' most recent round before being turned around early in the opening contest forcing him out of the race. However he bounced back in the other two races culminating in his inaugural V8 Series win in the finale.
"It is going not too bad," said Knight as he looked forward to the resumption of the series after the Christmas break. "It hasn't all gone completely to plan but I am definitely happy. We will see what the next two weekends bring. You can never tell what is going to happen."
Knight sealed his 2007/2008 TRS Championship title at Teretonga while he was the lap record holder in that class at Timaru for some time. Timaru has also become almost a home race for Knight this season. The Canterbury earthquake in September damaged the Knight Motorsport workshop in Christchurch and the team has been forced to move to Timaru for their testing during the season.
Knight is supported in the 2010/2011 BNT V8s Championship by Century Batteries, Parker Stores, Milwaukee Power Tools and The Rock FM.
