KNIGHT GAINS ANOTHER GOOD RESULT
After scoring his first BNT V8s Championship race win in November Andy Knight of Christchurch backed up that result with a fine third place finish at Teretonga Park in Invercargill on Sunday.
Knight was competing in Round 3 of the BNT V8s Championship and after some testing times throughout the weekend drove a great race in difficult conditions to secure third place in the final race of the round.
The initial stages of the weekend had provided its challenges for the twenty-four year old as he suffered a gearbox vibration in testing which necessitated an engine change before qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately the spare engine was less powerful than the original unit and Andy did a fine job to firstly make the top ten shootout in the Century Batteries Falcon and then to go on and set a lap time good enough for eighth grid position in the shootout.
While Knight struggled with the lack of power in the first two races on Sunday the arrival of rain prior to the final contest meant Andy was able to race competitively in the difficult conditions where horsepower was not at such a premium. From tenth on the grid he was quickly up to second place before slotting in behind championship leader Angus Fogg and defending champion Craig Baird to notch up third place in the treacherous conditions.
"We were lucky to make the top ten in qualifying with what we had," said Andy looking back at his weekend. "The engine did not play a big part in the rain so we were able to race at the front in the final race."
Knight will now head to the next round of the championship at Timaru International Motor Raceway next weekend. Since the Canterbury earthquake in September Knight and the Century Batteries Falcon have used the South Canterbury circuit as their test track. "The car is based there. Hopefully we can do some work to fix our issues during the week and have a good one next weekend," said Andy.
