SCOTT ON CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM

Hamilton driver Kayne Scott wrapped up his 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship at the Taupo Motorsport Park last weekend with another top class performance, netting third place overall for the round while also sealing third place in the championship.

The 2009/2010 series is the fifth year in succession that Scott has finished in the top three of this ultra-competitive championship while also taking the title twice in that period.

"Taupo was an exciting end of the championship for the team," said Kayne as he reviewed the final round. "The Fujitsu Falcon was showing awesome speed. We were among the fastest times through testing and qualifying due in no small way to the huge effort that the team have continued to put into the car."

Scott qualified the car third fastest in the hotly contested top ten shootout just .158 of a second off the fastest time. "We were so close to pole position." Kayne was involved in a fantastic battle in the first race of the round dicing with Craig Baird before passing him to cross the line second after 10 laps. That was soon backed up with another good finish in race two when another second place was added to the tally along with the fastest lap of the race. The final race of the championship, the traditional reverse grid race, was all action with Scott rating it a "titanic battle" as he worked his way from the back of the grid to fourth place as cars "speared off left, right and centre" all around him.

At the end of an extremely close weekend between the top three contenders John McIntyre won the round with 195 points from Craig Baird on 189 and Kayne just one point behind on 188.

"There were very few points between first and third," said Kayne after a round that showcased the competitive nature of the series. "I owe a huge thank you to all who have helped us through the season. Now bring on Hamilton," he said. Scott and the Fujitsu Falcon will next be in action around the streets of Kaynes hometown at the non-championship Trophy Race at the Hamilton 400 from 16-18 April. Scott is the defending champion in Hamilton having dominated there last year, winning all three races and taking the lap record as well.

Before then he will be back in action at the Timaru International Motor Raceway this weekend where he will reunite with the McGinty's Kenworth. Scott will be attempting to regain the NZ Super Truck title which he won two years ago. He was leading last years series but was unable to contest the final round as it clashed with a round of the BNT V8s Championship.

Kayne Scott's campaign in the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship is supported by Fujitsu Heat Pumps, Altherm Window Systems, Smeg, Castrol, Trade Tools, CRC and PPG.
