SCOTT FIGHTS TO THIRD

While the outcome at Round 3 of the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship was not what defending champion Kayne Scott would have wanted the Hamilton driver compiled enough points across the three races this weekend to climb to third place in the championship point standings.

It has been a frustrating title defence for the two-time champion with a series of issues hampering his campaign at each of the rounds held to date. However Scott is relatively upbeat. "This year and last have certainly been contrasting seasons," he said as he reflected on his Teretonga weekend in the pits soon after the final race at the country's southernmost circuit on Sunday.

"Luck has to play a big part in a successful season and this weekend we have just had small issues although ultimately we didn't quite have the pace."

Scott qualified 7th fastest at Teretonga, his favourite circuit, and then raced to a pair of 7th placings in the first two races of the weekend. In the final race, a reverse grid contest, Scott drove a well judged race to bring the Fujitsu Falcon across the line in 3rd place. The points from the three races saw him classified 4th overall for the round although for a time he was promoted to 3rd when a penalty was applied to one of his rivals, Angus Fogg. However the penalty was overturned later in the evening returning the results for the round to its original order.

While the weekend was not as productive as he would have wished, the round has seen Kayne move from fifth in the championship to third.

"We made more set-up changes than ever," said Scott as he assessed the weekend. "You can't let it get to you though. We had a pretty reasonable car for the conditions and we did the best with what we had. We made changes over the winter and some of those we may have to go back and have another look at. Once you are in race mode though it is difficult to do that. It is going to be a tough year but we'll keep our chin up and keep boxing. The team has done a massive amount of work and we got a good result at the end. We will do the best we can."

While the season has been far from plain sailing Scott has still managed to remain to the fore in the championship. "At Pukekohe we lacked outright pace but we left there sixth in the points and then at Powerbuilt Raceway in Christchurch we lost an engine but still finished third overall. Again, here at Teretonga we have come away with fourth for the round and we now sit third in the championship points."

There is only a short timeframe for the team to prepare for the next round which takes place at Timaru International Motor Raceway next weekend.

Kayne Scott's campaign in the 2009/2010 BNT V8s Championship is supported by Fujitsu Heat Pumps, Altherm Window Systems, Smeg, Castrol, Trade Tools, CRC and PPG.
