Awesome Fight Back by Adrenalin Motor Racing

Small, independent Fujitsu V8 Supercar team Adrenalin Motor Racing, has pulled off what most thought was impossible, repairing their damaged ESET V8 Supercar and finishing 10th and 11th in the second race of the round at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Novocastrian brothers Drew and Aaren Russell qualified well, with Drew in 9th and Aaren in 17th. Both started cleanly and jumping a place each in the opening race on Friday afternoon.

A significant accident early in race one saw Drew's car sustain severe damage to the rear of the car and forced the team to work through the night to get the car repaired.

Drew was locked in a tight battle with Ryan Hansford who made a mistake and hit Drew going into turn two. The impact spun Drew and he hit the tyre wall heavily with his rear. The impact with the tyre wall flipped the car on it's side and caused significant damage to the car.

Fortunately, Drew was uninjured in the accident.

After getting the car back to the paddock, it was touch and go as to whether or not the team would be able to repair the car.

The team got the car back from the TAFE team at about 3:30am and worked solidly right up until the warm up lap in an effort to get back on track.

After a solid, clean drive in race one, Drew's younger brother Aaren started in 12th position for the second race.

Drew started the race in pit lane after a few last minute changes needed were made to his car after the warm up lap.

Working his way through the field, Drew picked off drivers to be in 15th place and right on the tail of Hansford after just three laps.

Even though he was quicker, Drew found it difficult to get past Hansford as he battled with tyres that had gone off much quicker than normal, because of changes in the car set up after the accident. Drew managed to get past on lap 8 and set about chasing his brother ahead of him.

Drew closed the gap to his brother, but finished just behind him with Aaren taking 10th place and Drew in 11th.

Speaking after the race, a tearful team owner Wayne Russell was overwhelmed by the effort of both drivers and the whole team.

"It doesn't get much better than that," he said.

"I cannot explain how great an achievement this is for our team. Last night I thought we were going to have to put Drew's car back in the truck, I was sure it was game over.

"But the team refused to give up, as far as they were concerned we had all night to get the car repaired and they were determined to do that. These guys do it for the love of it, most of them are volunteers so that makes this even more special.

"Even though we have a small team, they were able to put the car back together and give Drew a car he was able to bring home in 11th place.

"As for Aaren, I couldn't have asked for more from the kid this weekend. He has not put a foot wrong - he has improved every time he has been out on the track.

"He even set his fastest lap of the weekend on the last lap of the race, although he may have had extra motivation given it was his brother filling his rear mirror!"

The team were particularly grateful for the amazing support they got from the TAFE team.

"Without the TAFE guys help last night there is no way we would have been able to get back out on the track," said Wayne.
