EXPECTATIONS MET AND MORE

Expectations The rookie team of Chris Delfsma climbed to a new level after finishing fifth at the fourth round of the Shannons V8 Touring Car National Series held at Eastern Creek on September 11-12.

After a fifth and a sixth in the first two races, Delfsma capped off the round with a fine fourth in the last. On race results alone he and the Century 21 Ford Falcon AU team were fourth.

However a broken control arm during the points-earning, one-lap shootout Time Attack session on Saturday meant he would be fifth overall. Without that drama, the team could have very well finished on the podium!

"What a great weekend!" Delfsma said elated. "Huge thanks to Garry Mennell, Phil Armour and Lou Kapitsas who all did a fantastic job turning out a great car."

"Phil was keep busy early in the weekend with the few mechanical issues but was right on it making sure the car was ready for the next session," Delfsma continued. "I found Lou every confidence inspiring . . . and easy to work with on the data. Garry as usual did great things, ensuring everything ran like clockwork."

After debuting the Century 21 Ford at Winton late June, the team felt it was going to be hard, but not out of the realms of possibilities, to top that weekend -- yet they did.

"It could have been even better because all three of my starts were horrible," he admitted "but it was a lot of fun picking my way back up the field afterwards."

An incident in race one with one of the Holdens knocked the wheel alignment out and caused some superficial body damage while in the second race they came through unscathed.

The team played with suspension settings, making some changes for the best race result of the weekend in race three. More importantly for much of the race, he was lapping in around the same times as the race leader.

The Century 21 team now readjusts it focus for the next meeting, the culmination of the V8 Touring Car National Series at Sandown in Victoria on October 23-24. "Sandown is one of my favourite tracks as I have had really good results there previously in Production Cars -- I can't wait," he concluded.
