WINNER ALREADY BUT SECOND TO BE DECIDED

Tony Evangelou only has to turn up at Sandown in Melbourne this weekend to collect the 2010 SHANNONS V8 TOURING CAR NATIONAL SERIES trophy, having wrapped up the series already in his formerly Ford Performance Racing Ford Falcon BA. But the new king of the category catering for former V8 Supercars will be still be out to win races.

Heading into round five the Victorian driver has taken out three of the four rounds contested with a second overall in the other, and wouldn't mind chalking up a treble of victories to see out the season.

He won't be too concerned either about where the most interest will centre, and that is on the battle for second between South Australia's Chris Smerdon and Victoria's Terry Wyhoon. Smerdon started out the season in an ex-Stone Brothers Racing Falcon AU and then debuted a Stone Brothers Racing BA at the third round, but computer glitches ruled the inaugural 2008 series winner out of the last round.

Fortunately for Smerdon, round one winner Wyhoon was a non-starter at Eastern Creek as well in his ex Larkham Motor Sport BA. So effectively the pair can resume battle for the runner-up's spot as they are only separated by 19 points.

Equally enthralling will be the battle for fourth between four more Fords with West Australian Matt Hansen (ex-Prancing Horse Racing AU), Chris Delfsma in his ex-Howard Racing AU, another SBR AU with Mark Sheppard at the helm and the former Ford Pickford Racing AU of John Vergotis facing off.

Whilst not in the title hunt, Holden numbers are strong here with three former Garry Rogers Motorsports VYs in the hands of Stephen Voight (Qld), Aaron Tebb (NSW) and Derrick Hocking (Qld).

Isidoro Ambrosio is back in the driver's seat of the ex-Perkins Engineering VZ that West Australia team mate Dean Kovacevich drove at Eastern Creek while the Commodore VX that won Sandown's final round last year in the hands of Steve Owen, will be re-joining the V8TCNS in the hands of series debut and Improved Production driver Shaun Fennell.

Another series rookie makes his debut this weekend too. Commodore Cup driver Nathan Collins will race a Terry Wyhoon-run Image Racing Ford Falcon AU.
