THE STREETS OF ADELAIDE LIGHT UP!
The streets of Adelaide are set to come alight when the stars and cars from the Australian GT Production Car Championship do battle in the inaugural Sunset Showroom Shoot-out at the Sensational Adelaide 500.
A capacity field of production based racers will fight for race honours as the sun sets on the Adelaide circuit on Friday, 9th April next year.
The two driver event will kick off at 5.45pm and race into night, taking the chequered flag at 7.30pm with headlights ablaze.
From Ferrari to Ford, Porsche to Proton and Subaru to Suzuki, the GTP category has established itself as one of the most spectacular in Australian motor racing.
With 55 cars set to tackle Mount Panorama next week in the 3-Hour Bathurst Showroom Showdown, the GTP stars including high profile drivers Neil Crompton, Paul Morris and Jim Richards are eagerly awaiting the new Adelaide event.
The GTP category also attracts other major stars with Iron Men Grant Kenny and Guy Andrews along with AFL football media personality, Sam Newman, all racing at Bathurst next week and keen to contest the Sunset Showroom Shoot-out.
"I really used to love the old Adelaide Grand Prix circuit and I think the Sunset Showroom Shoot-out will be a fantastic event," Jim Richards said.
"The atmosphere that Adelaide had, has never been recreated in Melbourne at the Grand Prix and I am sure the Sensational Adelaide 500 weekend will have that same feeling.
"Racing as the sun goes down also will be spectacular on the streets of Adelaide and I am sure it is going to be a great fight.
"The new circuit retains much of the old character of the GP track and I think the GTP cars will be perfectly suited to the new track."
Administered by PROCAR Australia, the GTP category is divided into six different classes, with drivers doing battle with similar machinery for class honours - Ferrari vs Porsche, Ford Falcon vs Holden Commodore and Suzuki Swift vs Hyundai Excel are just some of the on-going rivalries.
As a major support to the V8 Supercar event, the GTP racers will also fight it out in two sprint races on Saturday and Sunday's race program of the Sensational Adelaide 500.
"This event will be unique for Australian motorsport and I am certain the thrill and excitement of headlights cutting a path through the night and brake discs glowing in the dark is going to be spectacular," PROCAR Australia Chief Executive, Mr Bill West said.
"Adelaide race fans are going to be in for a real treat and the timing of the event after work on Friday night will be a great way to kick off the weekend."
