Tim Leahey's tragic run of ill-fortune came to end in round three of the Formula Holden Australian Driver's Championship on the streets of Adelaide last weekend.

Leahey had completely dominated practice and qualifying for the previous round of the championship, only to fail to finish both races.

The young driver turned the tables in Adelaide to finish third on the road in both races. He received an added bonus when the car of rival Matthew Halliday was excluded from the second race for an illegal exhaust - promoting Leahey to second.

"We didn't have the perfect weekend, but at least we left South Australia with a big handful of points," Leahey said.

"I was in a strong position to challenge for the win on Saturday but the car kept jumping out of gear.

"It is pretty tough to drive these things at the best of times without having to hold the car in gear."

In an action packed second race, Leahey fought back from a mid-race spin to grab third spot.

"I got the car up on the kerb coming onto the back straight and got on the power a little too early and it swapped ends," Leahey said.

"I was lucky to keep the car off the wall, because there is not a lot of room for error in Adelaide with all these concrete barriers surrounding the race track."

The next round of the Australian Driver's Championship will be held on the streets of the nation's capital in Canberra from June 9-11.

"We still have a lot of work to do, because our car didn't have the speed at Adelaide that we demonstrated at Eastern Creek," Leahey said.

"Canberra will be a level playing field because nobody has raced there before. I am really looking forward to this race, particularly with Parliament House as a backdrop for the event."
