Alex Davison welcomes his first daughter

V8 Supercar driver Alex Davison has had the best news on the eve of his first race with the IRWIN Racing team; he is now a father for the first time!

Davison's fiance, Melanie Hardy, gave birth to 3.22kg (7.1lbs) Lily Davison earlier today in Melbourne, five days ahead of the expected due date.

Alex Davison is in Adelaide for the opening round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the Clipsal 500, and was wearing the biggest smile in the pit lane.

"Fantastic news with the most important thing being that Lily and Melanie are doing extremely well," said Davison.

"As for me, I'm buzzing and obviously very proud.

"I got the call late last night that Melanie was heading to the hospital and then by breakfast time this morning I became a father.

"The phone has been ringing off the hook and everyone at the track has been congratulating me. I'm sure that doesn't mean I will get any favours in the races this weekend!

"I will get through my race commitments this weekend and then work on my nappy skills after that."

The Stone Brothers Racing run IRWIN Racing team will hit the track for practice and qualifying tomorrow, ahead the twin 250-kilometre races over the weekend.
