The former NASCAR driver has only completed a handful of laps in a V8 Supercar since stepping down as the team’s lead driver earlier this year, having taken part in both Friday practice sessions in Darwin.

With additional running for non-regular drivers having been added for the next two rounds, DJR Team Penske has confirmed that Ambrose will be back behind the wheel this Friday at Queensland Raceway before handing over to Scott Pye.

The team has also revealed a brand new livery for the QR weekend, with Penske-owned company Western Star Trucks taking over as the #17 entry’s lead sponsor. The new livery also features a lot of maroon, a nod to Queensland’s recent rugby league State of Origin win over New South Wales.

“DJR Team Penske is proud to highlight one of the major Penske brands with primary sponsorship of the #17 Ford Falcon at the next round of the V8 Supercars Championship. Western Star Trucks has featured on the car at every event this year, but this round it takes top billing,” said DJR Team Penske Managing Director Ryan Story.

“This is an important part of the team’s marketing strategy as we welcome another Penske affiliate company as a primary sponsor.

“Marcos Ambrose will run the car on Friday morning and Scott Pye will continue the main driving duties in Queensland and we are looking forward to hosting many Western Star Truck guests at the track over the weekend.”
