BARGWANNA SNARES TENTH PLACE IN BAHRAIN
WPS/WOW Racing's Jason Bargwanna has continued his impressive late season form to secure tenth place in the Desert 400, round 12 of the V8 Supercar Championship Seires, at the Bahrain International Circuit today.
Following on from a tenth place finish in yesterday's opening 31-lap race Bargwanna was again engaged in a hard fought battle for the positions nine through to 11 in the second encounter. In the end, he was able to steer the #10 WPS Racing Falcon to tenth spot.
As had been the case in the opening two races of the round, Bargwanna was again in the thick of the action for the positions around the edge of the race three top ten. This time he was joined by Garth Tander and Russell Ingall in a three-way tussle.
By crossing the line in 11th place during the final race Bargwanna secured his second top ten round result of 2007 and elevated himself to 17th position in the championship standings.
Bargwanna's tenth placing secured the third consectutive top ten round result for the WPS/WOW Racing outfit.
While Bargwanna was battling inside the top ten his team-mate, Max Wilson, was enduring a tough weekend behind the wheel of the #8 WOW Racing Falcon.
In each of the three races Wilson made some good progress during the early laps but was unable to continue this speed throughout the race. His best finish of the weekend was 20th place in the final encounter.
By virtue of victory in two of the three races Mark Winterbottom won the round ahead of James Courtney and Steven Johnson.
In the chase for the championship it is Garth Tander who leads the way by 20 points over Craig Lowndes with two rounds remaining.
The next round of the championship is the Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania on November 16 -- 18.
WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY....
Jason Bargwanna -- #10 WPS Racing Falcon "It has been another good result for the team and the third straight round we've had a car finish inside the top ten," said Bargwanna.
"Everyone in the team is stoked. The WPS Falcon performed consistently over the weekend and had some reasonable speed.
"We've moved up in the championship standings and are on track for further success to finish the year on a high."
Max Wilson -- #8 WOW Racing Falcon "It was a tough weekend," said Wilson.
"We tried all weekend to get a good balance in the set-up of the WOW Racing Falcon but nothing we changed really seemed to improve our speed.
"Getting good power down out of the corners is vital around here, as is carrying some good speed through them -- unfortunately we couldn't unlock the code to either of these.
"Bargs' result has given the team another boost and hopefully over the next two rounds I can rejoin him closer to the front of the field to finish the year on a good note."
Craig Gore -- WPS/WOW Racing Team Owner "To secure a top ten result for the third consecutive round is a good achievement by the team," said Gore.
"Bargs showed some good speed over the weekend to secure tenth. His battles with the guys around him were very exciting and his experience shone through.
"Unfortunately for Max, it just wasn't his weekend. The guys tried everything they could to find a speedy set-up but it didn't seem to work.
"Hopefully, we can continue our momentum and finish the year with a couple more good results over the final two rounds."
