PERKINS AND WOOD TO START 23RD AT BATHURST

Jack Perkins and Dale Wood have secured the 23rd grid position for the start of Sunday's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 after qualifying at Mount Panorama today.

Perkins was frustrated not to get his #247 BET 247 Commodore further up the order in qualifying today, missing a spot in the top 20 in the opening segment of qualifying and failing to progress to the next part of the session.

Perkins and team-mate Wood will use practice tomorrow to work on the set-up of their car, realising that consistency and reliability are crucial factors to a strong performance in The Great Race.

Jason Richards earned provisional pole in qualifying at Bathurst today ahead of tomorrow afternoon's Top 10 Shootout, topping the timesheets in his Commodore ahead of fellow Holden drivers Garth Tander and Lee Holdsworth.

DODO RACING TEAM QUOTEBOARD

Jack Perkins - #247 BET 247 Holden Commodore:

"Looking back it's disappointing for the whole team, the BET 247 guys have done a top job all weekend," said Jack Perkins.

"It's a little bit disappointing, we're a bit slower than we were last year. It's a long race so if Dale and I can keep out of trouble Sunday we should be alright.

"People have won it from the back of the field so it's not all doom and gloom. I'm really looking forward to getting out there on Sunday and giving it a red-hot go.

"It's a bit strange, last year was really good and each year you get here you expect to go a bit quicker.

"This is the first year I have come here and gone slower. From a personal side of things it's a little bit disappointing, but I'm sure there's reasons for everything. We will analyse it all over the next day or so and make sure it is all alright for the race."

Dale Wood - #247 BET 247 Holden Commodore:

"The BET 247 car is probably not ideally where we would like it at the moment," said Wood.

"It doesn't make you comfortable and happy over the top which is not great, it's all about confidence over there.

"The more confidence you have in the car the more you can push it. At the moment we are at about 60 or 70 percent, really over there you would like to be at 90 to 95 percent.

"So if we can keep working towards it, this race doesn't matter too much on where you start. It's where you finish and how your day goes over 1000 kilometres.

"We are sitting in an OK position. It would have been nice to be in the top 20, but I am sure a thousand kilometres will hold plenty of interesting outcomes."
