KELLY BROTHERS TRAVEL TO BATHURST IN STYLE IN CADILLAC LIMOUSINE

Todd and Rick Kelly will travel in style on their annual Bathurst road trip this week when the pair hit the road in a 1989 Cadillac stretch limousine.

Along with Jack Daniel Racing co-drivers Owen Kelly and Dale Wood, the Kelly brothers will hit the Hume Highway in the white beast, powered by a 5.0-litre fuel injected V8 engine.

The machine, complete with 'KRLIMO' registration plates, is just the latest in a series of weird and wonderful vehicles that the Kelly brothers have driven to Bathurst over the years.

Previous cars have included a 1973 Kingswood towing a caravan and last year, the popular black 1953 Chevrolet V8.

"Our Bathurst road trip has almost become an event in itself," said Rick Kelly, who won The Great Race at Mount Panorama in 2003 and 2004.

"We started with a Britz motorhome and called it the happy camper, which was nearly 10 years ago now.

"The last few years we've chosen very different cars to drive up and it gets more and more difficult each year to pick something that's a big left field and is a bit different.

"So we put a promotion together with Nova FM in Melbourne and we got a lot of people to email in their cars. Eventually we narrowed it down to the idea of a limo and we chased this one down. A guy came forward with it from Sydney and we got it.

"We're pretty excited about it and it's very different to what we've had in the past. The tough thing is going to be working out what we do next year to top it.

"It's definitely a sweet ride. We've put a DVD player in the back so we can watch Bathurst footage all the way there, enjoy the trip and get there nice and relaxed.

"We'll definitely give a lap of Mount Panorama a shot, it's whether we get around or not. I think the thing will bottom out through The Dipper. We'll give it a go!"

Todd Kelly, winner of the 2005 Bathurst 1000, was pleased to see so many fans visit Kelly Racing yesterday at the team's second annual open day, which doubled as a send-off party for the driver's Bathurst road trip.

"It's hard to know what sort of crowd will turn up and we're always very surprised to see so many fans support us," said Todd Kelly.

"There was a huge crowd and we could have sat down for four or five hours straight just signing posters.

"But we still managed to squeeze in the driver change demonstrations and pit stops. We also spent some time talking with all the people that are interested in what we do without the pressures and schedule of a race weekend.

"I'm really looking forward to our road trip this year.

"It's going to be a pretty comfy ride this time, unlike last year in the Chev, so I'm sure it will be a good trip."

All eight Kelly Racing drivers, including the four Jack Daniel's Racing drivers riding in the limousine, will arrive at Mount Panorama on Tuesday ahead of this weekend's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
