DISASTER BUT "I CAN STILL WIN" SAYS RICHARDS
Bathurst nightmare became reality for Team BOC today when Jason Richards hit the wall at 90kph, doing approximately $100,000 damage.
The squad subsequently missed today's qualifying session as they assessed the damage and will have to start from the back of the grid for the 1000km race on Sunday.
Richards had been one of the fastest cars on Mount Panorama this weekend and, after finishing second for the last two years, was determined to go one better.
He and co-driver Andy Jones still believe the pace of the car could be their savior and are working with engineers on a recovery strategy.
The 161-lap race begins at 10.30 on Sunday.

"My motto was win it or bin it, but that was meant to be on the last ten laps of the race! Honestly, I'm very disappointed with myself today. It wasn't part of the strategy but you get caught up with the emotion of Bathurst and I attacked more than I should have. It's like fumbling the ball when you're about to go over the touch line. Hopefully I can resurrect my downer today and turn it into a great result on Sunday.
"I don't think today has impacted our Sunday result. Obviously it's not ideal but yes; we can still win it. We came from a lap down at Phillip Island to finish on the podium and arguably could have won if we'd run the perfect strategy
"I've got so much confidence in the car. We've got loads and loads of green tyres and one of the best cars in pit lane. I will be at maximum attack against the guys in the championship chase and those guys are going to have to yield."
Brad Jones
Team Co-Owner
"All three cars were looking quite comfortable to be in the top ten until this happened. That's the risk you take when you put everything out there; this sometimes happens.
"I would be very surprised if this car gets out on track tomorrow; now it's all about managing the situation. We've got to get the car fixed for Sunday's race and keep Jason's head in the right place, because he had blistering pace out there."
Andy Jones
Team BOC Co-Driver
"It looked like one of the walls jumped out at him at The Cutting but Jason is very driven to win this race and that's not going to faze him. Obviously we're a bit disappointed; it's not ideal just before qualifying but these guys will put it back together."
