Lowndes and Skaife to start the 'Great Race' from the front row of the grid

TeamVodafone's legends, Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife will start tomorrow's grueling Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from the front row of the grid, after Lowndes set the second fastest time in today's top ten shootout.

Despite setting a new lap record yesterday; Lowndes time was .0824 of a second shy of pole sitter Mark Winterbottom. "I can't complain we are starting off the front row for the biggest race of the year," Lowndes said.

"It wasn't the best lap, it definitely could have been better, but I didn't quite get the tyre temperatures up in time.

"The car balance actually came on strong in the last sector," he added.

Not accustomed to watching the shootout from the garage, Lowndes partner in crime for tomorrows 161-lap race Mark Skaife found the anticipation too stressful and retreated to the commentary box to call the session.

"It was way to stressful in the garage so I decided to go to commentary," Skaife admitted.

"Out of today we came away with a good solid start position for the race.

"The car has been great all week, now we need to make sure we get a clean start and stay out of trouble so we are in contention with 20 laps to go," he stated.

Teammate and defending V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup, recorded his best Bathurst Shootout result and with co-driver Steve Owen will start the race from grid position three.

"I am really happy with where we ended up," Whincup said.

"The car feels good and it felt good to get a solid lap in.

"We are starting off the right hand side of the grid tomorrow which to be honest is ideal," he added.

Steve Owen endured a difficult Fujitsu V8 Supercar race but was pleased with his stint in the #1 TeamVodafone Commodore. "While my Fujitsu race didn't go to plan due to brake issues we had a good day in Car 1," Owen said.

"To be starting off the second row of the grid is a fantastic result. I only did one timed lap but it was a good one and now I can't wait for the race. The 161-lap Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will get underway at 10.30am tomorrow.
