IRWIN RACING SET FOR 1000 KILOMETRE CLASSIC

IRWIN Racing's Marcus Marshall and Matt Halliday are now set for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with the team completing the final one-hour practice session today at Mount Panorama.

The IRWIN Ford completed 17 laps setting the 21st quickest time, with the focus on ensuring the car set-up for the entire 161-lap journey.

Running on old tyres as well as light and full fuel loads, both drivers had plenty of time at the wheel of the IRWIN Falcon.

"All is going to plan and I feel very happy with the car ahead of tomorrow's race," said Marshall.

"I'm not concerned that we are starting down the order as I'm sure our package will remain strong throughout the entire race.

"We have some aces up our sleeve for the race, including excellent economy which can help us with our strategy.

"It is a long day at the wheel, but we plan to be up there come the finish."

Halliday echoed Marshall's feelings and is looking forward to his fifth start at Mount Panorama.

"The car felt really comfortable today," said Halliday.

"We have worked all week on the race package and I'm sure we can show that tomorrow.

"It is a long day at the office, but we are ready for all challenges.

"It's about ensuring the car is in a position come the run to the flag and I'm sure we can score a top result."

IRWIN Racing engineer Marcus Clarke is confident that good teamwork in and out of the car can vault the team up the order.

"Starting towards the back is not a big issue," said Clarke.

"We can be flexible with our strategy and we are sure that with a cleaver strategy we can make our way forward.

"With two proven Bathurst drivers, plus an excellent crew in the pits we are quietly confident heading into the tomorrow race."

One last 20-minute warm-up will be held at 7.10am tomorrow with the 161-lap race to get underway at 10.30am.
