INGALL FOCUSED ON THE HOLY GRAIL
Since he joined the Supercheap Auto Racing outfit at the start of the year Rusell Ingall has had one goal in mind - winning the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
This weekend, nine months of hard work by Ingall and the Gold Coast-based team will come to the forefront as they chase the 'holy grail' in Australian motorsport -- the Peter Brock trophy -- at Mount Panorama.
"If there is one race that a driver wants to win, it is this one!" said Ingall.
"I've won it twice but I want more. This year my focus has purely been on this race -- I want to win it again.
"I will be leaving nothing for chance this wekend, neither will the team. I saw the emotion shown by the guys in the team when we finished on the podium in Queensland. If we can get on the podium at Bathurst I can almost guarantee you that you'll see some grown men cry!"
In last month's opening endurance race of 2008, the L&H 500 held at Phillip Island, Ingall and co-driver Paul Morris were in contention for a podium finish before a late race mishap drop them down the order.
However, the speed shown by the pair aboard the #39 Supercheap Auto Commodore was impressive and has the 2005 series champion buoyed with confidence entering this weekend's event.
"We had some good pace at Phillip Island but after I made a mistake late in the race it meant that we weren't able transfer this speed into a result," said Ingall.
"This weekend is 161-laps of flat out action, there is no time to be soft. We'll be out there to win and we'll be doing everything in our power to make sure that we finish on the podium."
Practice around the 6.21km Mount Panorama circuit begins on Thursday with qualifying held on Friday followed by the top-ten shootout on Saturday. The 2008 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will begin at 10:30am on Sunday.
