DAY OF DRAMAS FOR D'ALBERTO'S ENDURO DEBUT
9 October, 2005 -- It took only 14 laps for Tony's first attempt at the Bathurst 1000 to start unravelling when a slight knock to the front wheel of the #23 Dodo Racing Commodore, while in position 22, by Marcus Marshall resulted in serious suspension damage putting paid to any chance of a good result.
"It was not much of a knock but it broke the upright and brake disc which took quite a few laps to repair," Tony said.
With repairs completed Tony rejoined the race but complained of a spongy brake pedal which needed constant pumping. Coming into The Chase the inconsistent pedal caused Tony to lock a brake and fire into the back of Dale Breed, knocking them both off the track. After which Tony pitted to rectify the problem and hand the car over to Fabian Coulthard who soon had a drive though penalty applied for the Brede incident.
Tony's later stint proved to be productive with competitive lap times, although they were a number of laps down on their nearest rival.
Unfortunately Fabian was caught in the Murphy / Ambrose accident at the top of Mountain Straight, putting an end to their race with only a dozen or so laps remaining.
"It was disappointing to have the problems we had, but that is the nature of Bathurst," Tony said.
"I have gained so much experience from this weekend and it's build-up.
"From the testing with Dodo Racing, to Sandown, and here at Bathurst it has been fantastic. I really want to thank the team and crew for the opportunity," he said.
