Bathurst: WPS Racing Saturday report

GAINS CONTINUE AT BATHURST

WPS Racing has made some positive gains in today's 60-minute practice session for tomorrow's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama.

Drivers of both cars believe they have improved race packages for tomorrow, despite some valuable time again being lost in #8 WPS Falcon.

Jason Bargwanna was again consistent in the #10 WPS Falcon and the former race winner believes that he has the car to get the job done in tomorrow's race.

Bargwanna's co-driver Craig Baird did a few laps, but got some valuable track time in two Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup races in which he finished third.

Max Wilson was at the wheel of the #10 WPS Falcon when he had a mechanical drama exiting the chase and ended up in a sandtrap.

His teammate David Besnard was happy with overnight improvements despite his limited couple of laps in the car.

Mark Skaife has taken pole for tomorrow's race ahead of Jason Bright and Rick Kelly.

There will be a 20-minute warm-up tomorrow morning at 7.10am with the race getting underway at 10am.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY--

Jason Bargwanna - #10 WPS Racing Falcon

"The changes we made early in the session where a negative so we went back to what we had in qualifying," said Bargwanna.

"We ran on full tanks and the car was competitive with a full load.

"We say it every year, but we just need to keep ourselves out there and ensure we are there for the last hour of the race.

"It is going to be a long, long day."

Craig Baird - #10 WPS Racing Falcon

"Status quo for me really," said Baird.

"I did a few laps this morning and then got some time in the Porsche races.

"I don't think we are in bad shape for tomorrow."

Max Wilson - #8 WPS Racing Falcon

"I was coming out of the chase and had a mechanical failure of some kind and I just went straight ahead," said Wilson.

"I was probably lucky that it happened there and not at another part of the circuit.

"The car felt better immediately, despite my little time in it.

"I think we can make some further gains in the warm-up in the morning and then just start chipping away."

David Besnard - #8 WPS Racing Falcon

"The car was a lot better today," said Besnard.

"Despite the fact that I only got a couple of laps, it is obvious that we have learnt a lot from yesterday and have been able to adapt that knowledge.

"I guess today made me realise how bad yesterday was. I think we have a solid race package and that we just need to be patient tomorrow.

"A top five finish is certainly not out of the question for the #8 WPS Falcon."

Mark Larkham -- Team Principal

"The upside of everything is that we have actually improved the cars from yesterday," said Larkham.

"Both Max and David are comfortable with the car, despite the dramas this morning.

"I think Jason and Craig will work on chassis trim, but both are confident that they have a good race car.

"Considering the time we have lost I think we are in good shape.

"Our success will come from being clever tomorrow."

Craig Gore -- Team Owner

"It is not how you get into trouble, it is how you get out of it," said Gore.

"We have a really good team of guys who will put us in with a show tomorrow.

"This is one of those races where you can really win from anywhere on the grid -- look at 1997 when Ingall and Perkins where last after the first lap and still won it.

"Sure we did not have the qualifying pace of the front runners, but those times are not going to mean much in tomorrow's race.

"We will overcome a lack of track time and be in with a show."
