Mt. Panorama, Bathurst. Tuesday 4th August 1998

Brabham and Longhurst Unite for 1998 Mountain Quest ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---

Castrol Racing's Tony Longhurst will be joined by 1997 Bathurst 1000 winner, Geoff Brabham for this year's two long distance classics, the Sandown 500 and the FAI 1000.

Brabham, Australia's most successful international racing car driver of the last decade, has triumphed at such endurance milestones as Le Mans and Sebring as well as our own Sandown and Bathurst events. Geoff has raced at the Daytona 24Hr (6 times) and at Indianapolis (11 times) and has also enjoyed victory in IMSA GTP, IROC, Can-Am, Super Vee and Formula Atlantic.

1998 will be Geoff Brabham's sixth start at Mount Panorama and his third with Ford V8 power.

Castrol lubricated Brabham's factory BMWs during his three years with the team, culminating in last year's sensational victory, shared with his youngest brother, David.

Before returning to Australia in 1995, Geoff spent a total of 18 years living, racing and winning in England, Europe and America. He now lives on the Gold Coast with his wife Roseina and their four-year-old son Matthew.

His new boss, Tony Longhurst, who has also won at Bathurst and Sandown with Castrol support, firmly believes that having the immensely experienced Geoff Brabham by his side will shorten his odds considerably.

Last weekend's Oran Park V8 Supercar final delivered very encouraging results for Tony when he finished on the podium as both the top Ford and Dunlop runner.

"Geoff is an endurance specialist with impeccable credentials," says the clearly uplifted Longhurst "Put that together with our latest tyre, aero and chassis package and we have a real Bathurst-winning combination."
