Super2 young gun Todd Hazelwood will jump aboard Tim Blanchard’s BJR Commodore at Winton this Friday, as the team continues to evaluate its endurance co-driver options.

Hazelwood, a front-runner in the second-tier Super2 series, will drive a BJR Commodore for the first time during the additional co-driver practice session at Winton this Friday.

His Super2 rival Macauley Jones, who last year partnered Blanchard in the #21 Holden at the endurance races, will jump in Nick Percat’s #8 car for the 30-minute session.

The reshuffle and evaluation adds weight to the theory that Andrew Jones may not race in the enduros this season. While the ex-full timer has been a lock in the #8 car since stepping back to endurance duties in 2009, there have been whispers in the paddock that the team may opt to make a change for 2017.

Team owner Brad Jones did confirm to Motorsport.com in Perth last week that there were no firm decisions on the long-distance line-up, a position he re-affirmed as part of today’s announcement

“We’re going to try Macauley in Nick’s car at Winton,” confirmed Jones.

“There is a fair height difference between then but we think we’ve got Macauley fitted in as best as possible.

“Todd Hazelwood is going to join the team for the weekend and drive the Team CoolDrive car with Tim Blanchard. For Todd, this is his first time behind the wheel of one of our cars and I’m looking forward to seeing how he performs.

“Our plan is to give both Macauley and Todd some seat time in the different cars and we will assess the dynamics between everyone.

“We’ll confirm the pairings down the track, but this is our chance to give both guys a go and we’ll move forward from there.”

Hazelwood added that he’s looking forward to assessing the differences between his Matt Stone Racing Commodore the BJR car.

"I'm really looking forward to working with the team at BJR and getting behind the wheel of the Team CoolDrive Supercar for the first time Winton this Friday,” he said.

“There is a lot of information for myself to absorb during the session. For me it will be interesting to discover how the BJR chassis performs and what it is like driving on the softer compound rubber compared to what I am using in the Dunlop Super2 Series.”
