Defending V8 Supercar champions Stone Brothers Racing has signed long-time motorsport administrator Brian Lawrence as its new Commercial Manager.

Formerly of New Zealand, Lawrence has had a relationship with Ross and Jimmy Stone for more than 25 years.

The Commercial Manager position with SBR was created after the recent departure of Mark Roworth from SBR's Business Manager role to the PWR Group, which includes the PWR V8 Supercar team.

"Brian goes back a long way with Jimmy and myself and I think he will be a great asset for our team," said Ross Stone. "He understands the business of motor racing and that is the major asset you are looking for when trying to fill a role like this. "I am sure Brian will help SBR continue its current momentum, on and off the track."

Lawrence's own motorsport career began in the 1970s and culminated in three New Zealand Motocross titles before he switched back to cars in the mid 80s.

He was the co-owner and promoter of the five-round New Zealand International Motorcycle Series from 1973-1986 and hosted several Australian riders such as Gregg Hansford, Murray Sayle, Jeff Sayle, Vaughan Coburn, Kenny Blake, Geoff McNaughton and Ralph Hannan.

From 1986-1992, Lawrence was Motorsport Manager for Global Sports, promoters of the five-round NZ International Series including the promotion of the New Zealand International Grand Prix and Lady Wigram Trophy

In 1987 he was one of four founding members of the World Superbike Championship and later went on to become the President of the successful NZ TraNZ Am Association.

In more recent years Lawrence has developed and managed Heather Spurle's successful Women's World Water Speed Record which stands at 275kph.

He also managed Peugeot's endurance and land speed record campaign in 1995 achieving seven New Zealand records which still exist

In 2001 he arrived in Australia and started work with PROCAR as the Event Manager for the inaugural Bathurst 24 race.

He stayed on to run PROCAR's Nation's Cup and V8 Brute categories in 2002 and 2003.

"When Ross and Jimmy wanted to have a chat about becoming involved with SBR I was delighted," said Lawrence. "Our association goes back a long way and they have obviously achieved an enormous amount in this sport -- especially the V8 Supercar category. "I think SBR has built a fantastic reputation in so many facets in recent years and I look forward to playing my part and being a member of a terrific team of dedicated professionals."

The next round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be in Darwin this weekend.
