Bright has pace but little luck at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide

It was a day that promised much but didn't deliver for Team BOC's Jason Bright in the first two races at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

After qualifying 13th for the first 125 kilometre race and 4th for the second twilight race, the pressure was on to stay out of trouble and claw back as many positions as possible in the first leg. This Bright duly delivered. A late pit stop gave the Team BOC driver the perfect platform to attack toward the end, eventually finishing 8th, right behind the Volvo of Scott Mclaughlin.

Red Bull's Jamie Whincup took out the race with team mate Lowndes second and Shane Van Gisbergen third.

Jason Bright Race one: "I felt as though we could get a little bit further up. We had the speed in the car but I didn't want to take too many risks there toward the end behind Scott and Rick (Kelly). Being the first race of the year and with another an hour later, I mean, if it was for the championship it would've been another story but at this stage it just wasn't worth it."

Race two started well, with Bright holding on to fourth place off the grid. With an early pit stop planned things looked good for the Team BOC driver. Unfortunately wheel gun problems robbed Bright of any hope of a strong result, dropping him from 3rd to 21st.

Following a safety car brought out by debris from James Courtney's damaged HRT passenger side door, Bright clawed back some positions but a technical issue with the car brought a halt to any meaningful comeback and Bright finished in 21st.

Red Bull's Craig Lowndes took out the win from the Volvo of Scott Mclaughlin with champion Jamie Whincup finishing third.

Jason Bright Race two: "We've had a quick car all weekend and haven't come out of today with as many points as we hoped but there's always tomorrow and we need to really get a good result. The pitstop was disappointing but something else broke on the car so I don't think we could've held on to fourth. We've got the speed, we've got the tyre life and as long as we qualify well and stay out of trouble we'll be right tomorrow."

The final 250 kilometre race takes place tomorrow at 15.15 ACST.
