Cat Racing pairing John Bowe and Simon Wills kicked off the VIP Pet Foods Queensland 500 in strong form today with both drivers setting competitive times.
Bowe was 9th fastest in the opening one hour practice session, stopping the clocks at 1 minute 11.573 seconds.
Wills took over for most of the second session, setting the 11th fastest time at 1:11.786.
Both drivers concentrated on perfecting a race set-up for the Ford Falcon for Sunday's 500km event.
"We basically ran most of the day on full tanks, making sure the car ran consistently in race conditions," Bowe said.
"There is no point having a car here which is blindingly fast over a single lap - but no during a full stint of fuel.
"The car has a little bit of understeer, but you can't dial too much of that out of the car because as the tyres wear, understeer quickly turns to oversteer and that is something you definitely do not want around this circuit."
After Bowe spent the majority of the opening session fine tuning the Briggs Motorsport machine, Wills did a handful of laps before spending most of the second session aboard the car.
"It can sometimes be tough to get a clear lap with everyone on track today, but it was good to get plenty of laps this afternoon," Wills said.
"John did a great job in setting up the car this morning and I was able to have a red hot go in the afternoon session.
"We still need to improve the car under brakes but overall the team has done a fantastic job in giving us a very consistent car."
The V8 Supercars will have a final 45 minute practice session tomorrow morning before the field is split into two halves for the qualifying sessions which commence at 12.45pm.
The Top-15 shoot-out to finalise the front of the grid is scheduled for 3.15pm, local time.
