Davies, a regular in the second-tier Dunlop Series, will make his main series debut at Sydney Motorsport Park at the next round, before staying on for the three enduros and the two single-driver rounds to finish the season.

He takes over from veteran Kiwi Craig Baird, who jumped into the #4 at Queensland Raceway on a one-off basis to replace outgoing full-timer Aaren Russell after he fell out with the team in Townsville.

Davies, who will test the car at a rookie dat at Winton later this week, says it’s “surreal” to get the call up.

“This is a dream come true,” said Davies.

“Since I started racing in 2010 it’s been my goal to race full-time in the Supercars Championship and to be here now is a surreal feeling.

“It’s been a challenging couple of years leading up to this point, with some great results but also some character building weekends.

“I don’t underestimate what’s ahead of me. It will be exceptionally challenging but a challenge I can’t wait to start

“The current main game field is world class. My job will be to head into each round focused, learn as much as I can from the team and do the best job I can, improving every outing.”

According to Erebus’s General Manager of Motorsport Barry Ryan, Davies has nothing to prove when he makes his full-time debut in Sydney in a little over a week.

“I first noticed Shae during his Formula Ford campaign when he was mixing it with the likes of [Chaz] Mostert, [Cameron] Waters, [Jack] Le Brocq and [Garry] Jacobson,” Ryan said.

“I’ve watched him closely and he’s punched above his weight in a number of categories with guys that have been doing it twice as long.

“Shae has nothing to prove, we already know what he is capable of; we saw that when he drove with our GT program in New Zealand last year."

Davies was in the frame for the #4 seat on a full-time basis at the beginning of the year, and was also already slated to race the car at the three enduros alongside Russell.

The team now neeeds to find a new co-driver ahead of next month’s Sandown 500.
