PROVISIONAL POLE KEEPS SHAW ON TOP IN GT PRODUCTION CARS AT EASTERN CREEK
SYDNEY driver Ric Shaw continued his domination of the Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship by claiming provisional pole position in official practice today for round three at Eastern Creek International Raceway.
Shaw, the series leader after winning every race and pole position this season, put his Mazda RX-7 around the 3.9 km outer Sydney circuit in 1 minute 46.22 seconds.
Although less than 0.6 sec. faster than second-placed Mark King, in a Mitsubishi Lancer RS Evolution V, Shaw said he was surprised the competition wasn't closer and expected a strong challenge in qualifying tomorrow.
Shaw's biggest threat appears to be King, who set his time despite the failure of his car's four-wheel drive system.
"Because of the mechanical problem, we didn't have a fair dinkum go today. Anyway, Friday is too early to pick a result; tomorrow is pay-day and I think we'll go better," King said.
The 44-car field will compete in two nine-lap races on Sunday.
