"We are just beginning" say Ford drivers Ambrose and Besnard.

Stone Brothers Racing's Marcos Ambrose and David Besnard believe they can produce more of the speed which recently upset series front runners the Holden Racing Team when they arrive at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway for round three of the V8 Supercar Championship this weekend.

Ambrose and Besnard have "stepped up to the plate" to lead the Ford fight against HRT which has dominated the championship for the past four years.

The pair sandwiched HRT's Jason Bright and Mark Skaife when they qualified first and fourth respectively in round two a Phillip Island and then displayed terrific car speed in both 150km races the following day.

Ambrose produced one of the drives of his career to beat Skaife home on fading tyres in his Pirtek Falcon in race one, while Besnard, also battling average tyres, finished an impressive fifth in his Caltex Havoline Ford.

"We said before Phillip Island that HRT were beatable and we proved it down there," said Ambrose. "We all came away from Phillip Island excited and keen to get to the next race and that's always a great sign. "Everyone at SBR is working around the clock to ensure we keep the pressure on and to help us become championship front runners. "We have made gains in a lot of areas and with a bit of luck on our side I think we certainly have what is needed to come away with a round win."

Besnard returns "home" to Sydney from his new base on the Gold Coast this weekend and is also excited about the speed of his Caltex Havoline Ford and the potential for a very strong season.

"Realistically SBR is a very young team compared to HRT and most other leading teams for that matter," said Besnard.

"I think we really have only touched the surface when it comes to the potential of this team (SBR).

"The results at Phillip Island gave us a real taste of what can be achieved and the good thing is that we really are only at the beginning of a whole new development curve.

"I would like to think it won't be too long before we see the Caltex Havoline colours on the podium."

SBR's third driver Wayne Gardner will be making his second of five appearances for the team at Eastern Creek, but first has to get through pre-qualifying on Friday. Gardner is driving a limited program in a Caltex Havoline Ford in between his commitments in the Japanese GT Championship.

The weekend schedule includes practice and qualifying on Saturday before a 12-lap race at 5.50pm. Sunday's action will consist of two 39 lap races starting at 11.15am and 2.45pm.
